The Battle of Iwo Jima, 1945
For many Americans, capturing Iwo Jima meant blockades of air and sea, which will then be used to destroy enemy air and marine ability of destructive bombardment. As the battle began between the U.S. and the Japanese, the 8-square-mile long island would be suffering from intensifying bombing for at least 36 days. So the battle started to take place over more than 30,000 U.S. Marines landed on the island on February 1945 where many Japanese soldiers dug tunnel all over the island. They were waiting for much of the U.S. soldiers arrive on the island so they could counterattacked them. Many Japanese soldiers sneak from bunkers to bunkers sneaking up and attacking from behind. Many naval attacks were being fired after the 36 days of intensive fighting where the Americans each fought hard to gain every inch of the island and to gain ground from the Japanese defender. When the battle was still on pace, American soldiers raised a large flag on top of Mount Suribachi to symbolize American values of strength and patriotism of their nation. At the end of the battle, many lives were lost from both sides, but the U.S. luckily took the island by supply efforts, medical support, and naval gunfire.Unfortunately, there were 26,000 American casualties and 20,000 casualties by the Japanese since most of them fought to their death. The Battle of Iwo Jima brought faith to many U.S. citizens by showing us that that the Axis powers were defeatable.
The Battle of Moscow, 1941
The Battle of Moscow ended in a devastating blow for the Germans since the German troops weren't prepared for the winter warfare and also didn’t have any winter clothing. During the beginning of the invasion of the Soviet Union, Hitler’s goal was to capture the capital city of Moscow at the start of Winter. Unfortunately, the Germans didn't stand a chance since their troops were weakened by the Autumn rains and freezing temperature was as low as 50 below zero. Because of this, the Russian troops have had a superior advantage of taking on the German troops since, their experienced Siberian army was trained for the winter warfare. Then, on December 1941 the Russians ordered a surprise attack which leads to the long retreat of the Germans and over 400,000 casualties of German troops. The Battle of Moscow eventually bought faith and victory to the Soviet Union that they could set the stage of the war to win.
Battle of Britain, 1940
At the beginning of the Battle of Britain, Hitler wanted to launch German air supremacy over the skies of Britain and invade the Britain Isles. Their strategy was to destroy the Royal Air Force (RAF) bases. Fortunately, for the British Expeditionary Force, the German aircraft were bombing the cities/towns instead, which gave them, the RAF enough time to replace its lost aircrafts and also to coordinate attacks by German bombers. But in the end, many British fighters appeared in large groups and shot down many of the German planes which lead to the German air supremacy not achieving its goal since it was running low on pilots/aircrafts. As a result, Hitler postponed the invasion of the Britain Isles and expelled the Battle of Britain. Luckily, Britain reconstructed its military force and once began as one powerful Ally.
Battle of Kursk, 1943
During the start of the Battle of Kursk, the Germans were launching its offensive in the east. Fortunately, the Soviet Union knew Hitler defensive's since his German army delayed the attack in order to wait for the new Tiger and Panther tanks. Buying the Soviet Union time, they began to build very deep defensive trenches which can then be used for a surprise attack. Once the battle began on July 5, the German forces of tanks were stopped short due to the immense depth of the Russian trenches. Because of this, the Red Army (Soviet Union) counterattacked which eventually lead to the retreat of the German defensive forces. The Battle of Kursk has been a big impact on WWII since, it pushed the Germans away from the eastern Ally and could then be forced to the western Ally, Great Britain and the U.S.
